SUNDAY 12th JULY 2009
RACE BRIEFING

SWIM 400 MTR, CYCLE 27km, RUN 8 km

WHITE OAK LEISURE CENTRE, HILDA MAY AVENUE, SWANLEY, KENT, BR8 7BT

REGISTRATION

Every competitor must register at White Oak Leisure Centre at least one hour prior to competing. Race numbers will be issued at registration, which is located along the upper corridor on the right towards the swim changing rooms.

Your race number, registration time and approximate start time will be published on this site one week before the race.
Please ensure that you are on poolside at least 10 minutes before your approximate start time.

The first competitors will be starting at 6.30 am sharp so please make sure you are there in time.

440 Yards POOL SWIM

The swim will be 12 lengths of the 36.66 yard pool. You will be called to your lane by the Race Starter where you will be given a coloured swimming hat to help the lane counters. The maximum number of swimmers in each lane will be four. On completion of 10 lengths the lane counter will indicate that you have two lengths to go.

Once you have completed the 12 lengths, climb out of the shallow end of the pool and head for the exit doors at the back of the pool where there will be a Marshal who will record you swim time. When you are out of the exit doors turn right and follow the path to the transition area.

27 km BIKE (1 Lap Course)

On leaving the transition area turn left into Hilda May Avenue then turn right and right again, then left to join the main road at the back of Asda as directed. From here the route goes towards Hextable, Swanley Village, Farningham, Hawley, Dartford, Leyton Cross, Bexley Village, North Cray Road, Ruxley roundabout and back to Swanley. The course will be well signposted and all major junctions will be Policed. Please study the route map carefully.

Please take GREAT care when negotiating the right hand turn into Swanley Village. This will be Police marshalled. All of the Marshals will have the power to disqualify competitors they feel break the rules of the Highway Code/BTA Race Rules. There will be draft busters patrolling the course and enforcing the “two foot rule”.

On completing the bike course, dismount at the transition marker, and enter the transition area on foot and rack your bike before removing your helmet and continuing to the run.

If you break down or do not wish to complete the bike section there will be a support vehicle at hand to return you and your bike to the centre.

8 km RUN

On leaving the transition, you will be directed left along Hilda May Avenue, right into North view, left into New Barn Park where you will complete 3 laps of the park (collecting a rubber band after laps 1 & 2). Marshals will record the race numbers of competitors that cut corners.
