Helvellyn and Sevenoaks

Congratulations to all those that competed at the weekend, especially to Steve Fish and Trevor McIlroy who travelled to the Lake District to attmept the notorious Hellvelyn Triathlon. Trevor said "1500 meter open water swim, 38 miles bike, including the dreaded Kirkston
pass (the Struggle), where a granny ring is essential! and an 8 mile fell run up Mount Helvellyn to the summit - third highest peak in the country! - I would say this is a harder event then the Weymouth half Ironman - It has everything!" Click event for results: Helvellyn / Sevenoaks. Sevenoaks was also this years handicap race which was won by James Drain. Well done James.

Thanet Duathlon
Well done to all those that were out at the weekend either at the Thanet Duathlon or the Relibility Trial. Thanks to Gary for his write-up of the Duathlon: Yesterday, 15th Jan. saw a good turnout of White oakers at the Thanet Duathlon.
The race consisted of a 2.5m run, 9m crosscountry bike and a 4.5m crosscountry run. Competing were myself, Paul Munday, Kevin Perkins, Steve Blackmore and Paul Atkinson.
As far as my race was concerned, it was a second showdown with Nick Kinsey in as many weeks; this time he got the better of me. I think his experience at this event made more than a little difference!! (7 times winner I think) and after the first run he just pulled further and further away finishing first about 5 minutes ahead of me in 2nd. Just behind, Paul M, Steve and Chris Neale (Medway Velo) were having a great battle for third. In the end Chris got too far ahead on the bike for Paul and Steve to catch on the run and came in third, Paul managed to get clear of Steve on the run, to finish just ahead of him in 4th, with Steve 5th. Kevin also managed to scrape into the top 10, and Paul Atkinson finished not too far behind.
To replenish the burnt calories (and a few more) we finished off with fish and chips at the sea front restaurant :-)
Really good day out - lots of tea and cake and a great support crew!! (thanks Warren Ali Di Jane Joseph Jacob and Mathew) Pictured right. - Gary Bryant. Click here for results.
Steve should also have won the 1st Vet award but Nick Kinsley was apparently given both the Senior and the Vets awards. Well done Steve.

First win of 2006

Congratulations to Gary Bryant on his win in the
Monsterman race at the weekend.

Elite Feet

A new running shop has recently opened at 62 Summerhouse Drive, Joydens Wood. Gary Walton, the proprietor, is very friendly and knowledgeable. He currently has a 15% off sale on until 19th February and has offered club members 10% off whenever they visit. Gary is also going to support our two races this year. Why not try it.
